Uncovering the Mystery of the Black Hills, One Experience at a Time
Susie Wall from Northwest Travel & Life didn’t know what to expect on her trip to the Black Hills, but with each turn and new experience, she found herself more deeply involved in unraveling its mystery. After watching the shootout in Deadwood, exploring and shopping in Rapid City, and taking a train from Hill City to Keystone and back, she made her final stop in Custer State Park. She notes, “You could easily spend a week exploring the park’s 71,000 acres riding horses, hiking the numerous trails, cooling off in the lakes or simply relaxing at one of the four historic lodges.”
While in Custer, she enjoyed the Wildlife Loop Road, but the culmination of her Black Hills experience was the Buffalo Safari Jeep Tour—the final piece to understanding what this incredible region is made of. “As our tour guide navigated the open-air jeep past grunting bison, the sky filled with nighthawks catching insects on the wing as the sun set, marking an appropriate end of my journey through the beautiful and mysterious Black Hills.”
Travelers who visit the Black Hills with curiosity and an open mind often come away with more than they were expecting. Read the full article from Northwest Travel & Life to see all that Wall experienced.
