Rules & Regs: 2015 Mountain Lion season approaching

Archives   |

The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department reminds hunters that applications are available for the 2105 South Dakota mountain lion season, set to start Dec. 26.

There is no deadline to apply for a tag, but those wanting a Custer State Park access permit need to submit that application by 7 a.m. MST on Dec. 10. The free permit is distributed to licensed mountain lion hunters through a lottery.

The Park will have eight separate hunting intervals, including four that allow the use of dogs.

The mountain lion hunting season ends on March 31, 2015, or when the harvest limit of 75 total lions or 50 female lions (whichever comes first) is reached.

Once either harvest limit is reached, the season will end in the Black Hills Fire Protection Unit. The statewide mountain lion hunting season runs year round, with no harvest limits.

Apply for a mountain lion hunting license or the Custer State Park access permit at gfp.sd.gov/licenses/general-hunt-fish/license-open.aspx.
