Choose from historic lodge rooms upstairs in the main lodge, hotel rooms attached to the main lodge that have been renovated for 2024, the Jr. Suites of Creekside Lodge next door, and cabins in the valley. On-property cabins including the Reunion Cabin and the neighboring Tatanka Cabin are within 1/2 mile walk.

State Game Lodge Historic Rooms
Step back in time in this king sunroom suite, where President Calvin Coolidge and Mrs. Coolidge stayed during the summer of 1927. With a refined color palette of light blues, whites, salmon, and mahogany reds, the space captures the elegance and tradition of the Coolidge era.
Experience history in the Eisenhower Room, where President Eisenhower stayed in June 1953. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this room was part of the original quarters for the President and his staff during the 1927 summer visit to the State Game Lodge. Warm wood tones, dark blue hues, and a blend of Victorian and modern touches evoke Eisenhower’s blend of tradition and strategic vision.

Step into elegance in the Grace Coolidge King Room, named for the inspiring First Lady. Originally built to house State Game Commissioners, this room became part of President Coolidge’s "Summer White House" in 1927. Inspired by Art Deco, the design reflects Grace Coolidge’s bold yet refined influence, with hues of green and deep blush, detailed wooden furniture, and elegant wall moldings.
Step into history in this queen sunroom suite, named in honor of the famous Lewis & Clark expedition. Originally one of the seven historic lodge rooms built for State Game Commissioners, this room became part of President Coolidge’s "Summer White House" in 1927. Inspired by the practicality of the expedition and the Victorian era's design revival, the room's natural hues reflect orderliness and homage to America’s past.
Experience the charm of this queen sunroom suite, named after South Dakota’s ninth governor, Peter Norbeck. This historic lodge room, one of the original seven, once housed State Game Commissioners before serving as President Coolidge’s “Summer White House.” The suite showcases a South Dakotan theme with retro tiling, plaid wallpaper, and rustic tones of forest green, brown, black, and white.
In the 1960s, two hotel room wings were added on to the historic lodge to meet traveler demands. These hotel rooms have seen multiple interior & exterior renovations over the years, and most recently saw a full interior refresh in 2024. The State Game Lodge Hotel Rooms feature exterior hallways, shared patios, and decks tucked along the tree-covered valley.
The State Game Lodge is also known for its wildlife sightings, and the hotel rooms are perfect for just that. It is not every day that the buffalo herd comes through, but when it does, you don't want to miss it! Enjoy extra large picture windows so you can take in the views.

The State Game Lodge is a gracious native stone and wood lodge built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It served as the “Summer White House” for President Calvin Coolidge in 1927 and was visited by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. And the Grace Coolidge Creek still serenely winds through the valley today.
