Meet Our Herd

Benji

Benji is a guidehorse who came to us just last year from Missouri, and he was born for the trails. Used as a trail horse at his previous home, he immediately excelled at his job here at the stables and proved to be a calm, cool, and collected guide horse. Benji is a sweet boy who is very willing to venture through the park and share the beauty of the Black Hills.

Boss

Boss came to us from a facility in Minnesota, and chances are you’ve seen Boss while checking in at our stables office. Boss’s stall is next to the office window, and he loves greeting guests as they get ready to ride. Boss also loves taking naps in between his day job. He will often rest his head on the manger at the front of his stall to nap. All power-napped up, Boss is always ready for a ride through Custer State Park!

Boone

Originally from Missouri and named after the famous trapper Daniel Boone, Boone is at his happiest at the creek crossings on our trails, as he loves to stick his entire nose in the water while he takes a drink. Boone is a retired roping horse, and he came to us after his years heeling started to make him unhappy. Boone now enjoys life as a trail horse and is often found on longer rides, which give Boone plenty of opportunities to stick his head in the creek and cool off on warmer days. If you ever get the chance to pet Boone, you’ll also notice his red coat feels like velvet!
