Park superintendent Richard Miller will retire on Dec. 23 and be replaced by Matt Snyder. Snyder has been the superintendent at Itasca State Park in Minnesota.
State parks director Doug Hofer says Miller has been an effective leader and talented financial manager at a time of transition for the 71,000-acre park.
Miller has served in the position since September 2004 after former superintendent Rollie Noem retired.
Hofer says Snyder has experience that makes him a perfect match for the position.
Snyder begins at Custer on Monday to provide some overlap.
